"I want to thank OpNet for pioneering the approach that is absolutely critical to closing the digital divide. I came to OpNet because we want to do it here first, and use the blueprint to do it nationally. I congratulate those that have pioneered this journey for us. We want millions of Americans to follow in your footsteps." Vice
President Al Gore

On
Saturday February 26, Vice President Al Gore visited OpNet to recognize
the program as a national model for providing the skills and resources necessary
to bridge the Digital Divide. Vice President Gore joined over twenty-five
OpNet graduates and students and many other supporters to talk about the
strategies needed to expand access and opportunity to as many individuals
and communities as possible.

|
The Vice President applauded the successes of OpNet students, like Tracy Johnson, a single mother of three whom, prior to joining OpNet was living in a homeless shelter and struggling to support her family. After the training and only two months into her internship, Tracy was hired FT and was recently offered an even better position at Looksmart that will enable her to move into permanent housing and provide for her children.

Tracy's is only one of many, many stories of OpNet graduates and students who have successfully crossed that bridge and are now leading exciting, new lives filled with opportunity. We hope that these stories will serve as inspiration to others who want join with us to make OpNet a national program that serves communities across the country. |
